A Life In The Shadows Ain't All It's Cracked Up To Be Street_1_-_OP

The rain wasn't what bothered her, even though it had picked up enough, now, that it was beginning to snake down the back of the collar of her synthleather trench. It wasn't the flickering of the street lamps, or the smell of refuse and excrement mixing with the wet blacktop and the breeze coming in off the sea. It wasn't even the fact that the Stuffer Shack was closed because it had been robbed again (though she did wonder why they bothered closing at all. Really, they should be used to this, by now). No, what bothered her was that Lone Star was, for some reason, involving themselves with this particular robbery.

"Someone musta gotten geeked," rumbled the looming troll in front of her, more or less voicing the thoughts she had in her own head.

"Yeah, probably," came the reply from a stocky dwarf beside him, his arms crossed in a leisurely fashion, though Roin could tell he was just about as tense as she was, "bet someone's up for a promotion, too."

Most of the crowd standing outside the crime-scene tape and barriers lingered for a while longer, but Roin decided not to stick around. She had come to Seattle, of all places, to lay low for a while after her last run had gone bad, and she knew getting even remotely involved with Lone Star agents was not the best thing for keeping a low profile.

The black-haired rigger cursed as she rounded the next street corner, knowing she would have to walk another mile in this rain to get to the other Shack down the way. Usually, she wouldn't give a frag and just go home to come back later, but there were a few things she desperately needed. While she had stocked the coffin hotel here in the Sprawl decently enough in the case of just such an event, she had apparently not expected to be staying in the little bolt hole for so long.

Though it wasn't just her supplies that were running low...Eventually, she knew, she would have to come out of hiding and find a job.

But for now, she needed supplies. And probably food...No, definitely food.
